Alhaz GK Mushahid, an artist, inventor, and researcher, created “The Icon of Epochs From Ireland” to honour John Hume, one of the most respected advocates for peace, dialogue, and reconciliation in the modern history of Northern Ireland.
John Hume was an Irish nationalist politician who championed non-violent political dialogue and peaceful cooperation during one of the most difficult periods in Northern Ireland’s history. His commitment to reconciliation made an important contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process. In recognition of his lifelong efforts for peace, he received the 1998 Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with David Trimble.
Through this portrait, Alhaz GK Mushahid seeks to preserve John Hume’s image and legacy as a symbol of peaceful dialogue, reconciliation, and human understanding.
The artwork is created in oil on Real Thin-Tailed Sheepskin, an innovative artistic canvas developed through Alhaz GK Mushahid’s research. Through this distinctive medium, the artist aims to preserve important portraits, historical memories, and the legacies of remarkable personalities for future generations.
For Alhaz GK Mushahid, preserving John Hume’s portrait is more than preserving an image—it is a way of keeping alive the enduring message that peace, dialogue, and reconciliation can leave a lasting legacy for humanity.
